This is my cute Zen Sand Habitat. It was born for baby frogs to lie on. 4/5
Utterly gorgeous like a diamond/crystal. 5/5
Some random habitat I can't find the name of. It looks quite cool but dangerously uneven for my poor froggies. 3/5
It looks like some toilet floor, too unhygienic for my frogs. 1/5
The floor looks like it belongs in a museum--4/5 TBC
Recently I'm addicted to POCKETFROGS! I've introduced all my friends to it haha. I also only recently found out about chroma frogs and been busy breeding them. I'm currently level 9 and called froggieisland. I will be reviewing on habitats and frogs. Firstly, I don't really care about those plain Anura, Velatus, Clunicula, Marmorea, Puncti, Zebrae, Partiri, Bovis, Mixtus, Nimbilis frogs. For Crustalli, those are really pretty and cheap but you'll want to be moving up to more interesting patterns! Lanterna: I like Tangelo Chroma Lanterna since it looks like a jack-o-lantern. Adamantis frogs are quite pretty too but nothing special. Africanus: those look like maps and my favourite is Beige Picea Africanus which looks like liquid gold, and Black Chroma Africanus. Nasus: Only the Glass Albeo Nasus looked gorgeous, the other colours look weird. Roboris: really very beautiful. My favourite is Black Albeo Roboris (look like a deck of cards) and Beige Tingo Roboris, classy red and gold. Calyx: Much better than Zebrae! They allow for a subtle change in colour. I got Glass Albeo Calyx, Tangelo Aurum Calyx, Green Muscus Calyx, Marine Muscus Calyx, Blue Callaina Calyx. Viduo: Just the classic Glass Chroma Viduo. Stellata: Blue Aurum Stellata--Starry Starry Night. Serpentis: Golden Picea Serpentis--looks like a royal snake (In chinese history, yellow is the colour of the emperor) Spinae: White Picea Spinae for a skeleton scare! Cesti: I thought they were quite plain until I realised White Picea Cesti looked like a sushi roll--time to indulge my hungry stomach! Sagitta: Black Muscus Sagitta looked like a green arrow. Amfractus: Black Chroma Amfractus looks like a changing traffic light. So for classy frogs, always use Chroma, Glass, White and Black :)

Trio For Trilingualism

Studio album by The Last Aurora

Released January 2010
Recorded October, December 2008
Genre J/Pop, Ballad, Folk, Rock

Trio For Trilingualism is the fourth studio album of Singapore pop trio The Last Aurora, released on January, 2010 in Singapore. It is the first The Last Aurora album with 13 songs, and second in featuring Chinese and Japanese languages. This album is mostly known for its catchy F.I.R.-esque mandopop songs. There are 5 Chinese songs, 5 English songs, and 3 Japanese songs.

Lead songwriter Shen Le has referred to it as the 'greatest fun I had making an album’.[3]

Felicia Lau said that “This album is very interesting. It has many different cultures and languages infused together. I really loved the diversity. This album rocks.”

The album has spawned five singles. “三之梦”,“一场梦”, “世界”,“谈情”, “传奇”.

Title Origin

According to Shen Le, the band's pianist and main composer, the album's title was Trio For Trilingualism, because she decided to write songs in Chinese and Japanese, and also as there are 3 members in the band. The name, though, has nothing to do with the album's tracks.

Recording
The Last Aurora began recording the songs in the winter of 2008, and were finished by spring 2009. As with their previous studio albums, Old Shadows Linger and The Truth Before The Dawn, the band collaborated with BMI freeplaymusic for their music. Notable composers include Scott P Schreer, Tillman Sillescu and Pete Calandra. The album was recorded, mixed and mastered at Shen Le’s house.

The album's production took two months.

Music style

Before the album's release, band leader Shen Le said that the album will have a lot in common with their debut album Dawncast. For example, the band will have more pop songs (such as “一场梦”, “世界”, “Fly To The Sky”), and ballads (“Being Different”, “With You”, “Sleep Song”), and traditional Chinese songs (“三之梦”, “谈情”, “传奇”) and rock song (“Don’t Tell Me”), but that additionally there will be JPop songs (such as “世界大戦”、“死亡”、“これは誰”). Also there will be traditional Chinese instruments, like the ethnic and bamboo flutes, percussion, guitar, and guzheng.

The lyrics will also be more optimistic, with love ballads (“三之梦”, “一场梦”, “With You”, “谈情”, “传奇”) and happy songs (“Being Different”, “世界”, “Fly To The Sky”), with an angry song (“Don’t Tell Me”). However, sad songs are still present (“世界大戦”、“死亡”、“Sleep Song”). The new album includes songs written by Chen Yun and Felicia Lau, with lots of famous writers, including the novelist Jin Yong and the great poet Li Bai, and orchestral parts.

The music will be mainly upbeat pop and slamming guitars, with a few piano pieces. The music is reminiscent of F.I.R.’s experiments.

“ This will be different from The Truth Before The Dawn. It still tells a story, but there is no musings like before. In fact, if you listened to both, you would not be able to tell it is by the same band. However, it's not going to be like Dawncast 2. There is maturity in some of the new songs, there will not be so many vulgarities, and angsty feelings like Dawncast. This is an inspirational album, for you to listen to if you’re happy.
-Shen Le, band leader, keyboardist and main composer[21]

This album also include songs sung equally by Felicia Lau, Shen Le and Chen Yun, instead of Shen Le being the lead singer. “The main idea of this album is to let everyone have a chance to sing. The Last Aurora is a band, not Shen Le’s solo act.” Shen Le, who actively avoids the spotlight, gave this input.

The album's average track length (with 13 songs) is minutes, with most of the songs lasting for about three minutes. The tracks are much shorter than The Truth Before The Dawn tracks, but much longer than Dawncast tracks.

Track Meanings

1. 三之梦is inspired by a dream Shen Le had, about her past life in Song Dynasty, China. Chen Yun was Princess Yu Lan, her best friend, Shen Le was Yue Er, a GuZheng player in court. Soong Wei Shun is Hei, Yu Lan’s bodyguard. Nicholas Seah is Bai, a minister in court. Hei and Yu Lan loved each other, but Bai wanted Yu Lan for the throne. Also, Yu Lan is a very beautiful girl, and the only one able to resist Bai’s charms. Yu Lan’s cousin, the king of another kingdom, wants to marry Yu Lan for the throne too. Yu Lan’s aged father, Emperor Xiao Zong, was too weak to prevent the King. However, Yu Lan and Hei decided to elope together. Bai wants to prevent them, and Yue Er blocks Bai, giving Yu Lan and Hei a chance to slip off. Enraged, Bai killed Yue Er. The King chased after Yu Lan and Hei, but fired an arrow at Yu Lan after she rejected the him. Hei threw himself in front of Yu Lan, dying for
her. Bai took advantage of the confusion and spirited Yu Lan away into the forest. They lived in solitude. However, Yu Lan pines for Hei, and refuses to eat or sleep. She died soon after. Bai, sad that there is someone who would rather love an ugly, uneducated man like Hei than a handsome, educated man like him, decided to kill himself too, by hanging. They were buried together.
2. Being Different is about how Shen Le thinks being different from others mean she is special. She does not follow fashion trends, but do whatever she wants.
4. 世界大戦is about World War Two, but not about the Japanese. It is about war on whole, how horrible war is.
6. 死亡is about how Death is forced to take people’s lives everyday, he dislikes the monotonous job, yet he must do his duty.
8. Fly To The Sky is inspired by Hilary Duff’s song Fly. It is about if you work hard, you will surely succeed in whatever you do.
9. 谈情 is about a man mourning for his dead lover. Their love is long, but their lives are not. She is in heaven, but the man’s soul labours to fly with her soul, but the road to heaven is long, and his soul can never breach the mountain barriers to be with her.
11. Don’t Tell Me is inspired by Avril Lavigne’s Take Me Away. It is about Chen Yun changing, and how she feels.
12. 传奇is about a forbidden love between a snake spirit and a human. The man died, and the spirit mourns their love for a thousand years.
13. Sleep Song is inspired by Secret garden’s song Sleep Song. It is a tribute to Chen Yun’s dead brother, who passed away in the womb when Chen Yun was eleven.

The Truth Before The Dawn Wiki

The Truth Before The Dawn

Studio album by The Last Aurora
Released January 2009
Recorded June-September 2008
Genre Symphonic Metal
Length 64:57

The Truth Before The Dawn is the third studio album of Singapore metal trio The Last Aurora, released on January 21, 2009 in Singapore. It is the first The Last Aurora album with the band's new member, Sarah Cheung, and the first album not featuring former member Chen Yun, who was dismissed in August 2008.
Lead songwriter Shen Le has referred to it as the 'greatest album that I wrote’.[3]
The album has spawned five singles. "I Wish For A Rainy Day", “Eternal Longing”, “A Great And Terrible Beauty”, “Say My Name”, “Face My Fears”.

Title Origin

According to Shen Le, the band's pianist and main composer, the album's title was originally intended to be Genesis Of Hope, a title which has been pushed back to their fifth album. The Truth Before The Dawn became the title when Shen Le decided that the dark era “teenage life” is not over yet. The new name, though, has nothing to do with the album's tracks.

Recording
The Last Aurora began recording the Aria For Ariel of Dark Passion Play in the winter of 2007, and were finished by autumn 2008. A total of 13 songs were recorded.[9] As with their previous studio album, Old Shadows Linger, the band collaborated with BMI freeplaymusic for their music. Notable composers include Scott P Schreer, Guillaume Wilmot, Vivaldi, Patrick James Slattery, and James Galway. Vocal recordings ended in September 20078, after Anette Olzon had been chosen as the band's new lead singer. The album was recorded, mixed and mastered at Shen Le’s house.

The album's production took nine months, making it the longest time we took to make an album. “Usually we take two months to make an album, so we can make an album a year. However, as the songs get longer and more epic, it takes longer too,” Shen Le said.

New vocalist

“The Truth Before The Dawn” introduced Sarah Cheung to take Chen Yun's job as part vocalist.

In August 2007, after an argument between Shen Le and Chen Yun over Chen Yun’s long absence in the band, Chen Yun was dismissed via an SMS. In search of a replacement, Felicia Lau suggested her friend, a wannabe singer Sarah Cheung. Sarah’s demo tape was alright, and Shen Le inaugurated Sarah into the band. However, Sarah Cheungwas no more committed than Chen Yun, who had since repented, so they kicked Sarah Cheung out for Chen Yun again.
Shen Le said they had made the decision in September 2008 based on the impression Sarah made while performing a Japanese song. “However, the moment she sang “Angels” by Within Temptation offkey, I knew something was wrong,” Shen Le said. “She doesn’t even knew she was out of tune!”

Music style

Before the album's release, band leader Shen Le said that the album will have a lot in common with the last album Old Shadows Linger. For example, the band have kept the new kind of more instrumental epic songs (such as "Within Temptation", “1001 Nights As An Undead”, “Aria For Ariel”, “Face My Fears”, “Say My Name”), dark songs (“Witch Child), piano ballads (“Sadako’s Threnody”), but that additionally there will be harder rockers (such as “Eternal Longing”, “A Great And Terrible Beauty”, “I Wish For A Rainy Day”). Also that there will be 2 very long symphonic track (“The Songwriter And The String” on Old Shadows Linger), (“1001 Nights As An Undead” and “Aria For Ariel” on The Truth Before The Dawn). The new album includes lots of guest lyricists and orchestral parts.

She also claimed there was going to be "shockers" that she didn't want to reveal. The long track, “Aria For Ariel”, is a song that according to her is a very beautiful, epic piece that is a lot like film score music, is the longest song in the band's history, 13:25, 2:27 minutes longer than the song that used to occupy that position, “The Songwriter And The String”Another film-score epic, “1001 Nights As An Undead” lasts almost 11 minutes.

“ The extremes are there more than ever before. So it's not going to be like Old Shadows Linger 2. There is more hope in some of the new songs.
-Shen Le, band leader, keyboardist and main composer[21]

Shen Le also said that there are darker pieces reminiscent of Old Shadows Linger, such as “Witch Child”, and some others. It will be a dark album, both musically and lyrically. Even though the album is much more upbeat than Old Shadows Linger.[22] Songs that reflect this mood are for example “Eternal Longing”, “A Great And Terrible Beauty”, and “I Wish For A Rainy Day”.

Just like the album Old Shadows Linger, The Last Aurora included many new influences and experimentations in several tracks. On Old Shadows Linger, much inspiration came from piano, especially “Lavia” and “Our Farewell”. However, on Dark Passion Play, much inspiration comes from orchestra as this can be clearly heard on “1001 Nights As An Undead”

“Within Temptation”, “Witch Child”, “1001 Nights As An Undead”, “Aria For Ariel” are the songs featuring Shen Le’s male vocals. Shen Le is generally known for her operatic and sometimes talking in the songs.

The album's average track length (with 10 songs) is 6.5 minutes, with most of the songs lasting for about four minutes. Two tracks are over eleven minutes long, which is long for a The Last Aurora record, a band that mostly had songs about 2-3 minutes
and one or two longer per album.

Old Shadows Linger
Studio album by The Last Aurora

Released 2008
Recorded Febrary-June 2008
Genre Classic Rock
Length 38:51

Old Shadows Linger is the second studio album of Singapore rock trio The Last Aurora, released on July 2008 in Singapore. It is the first The Last Aurora album with an epic.
[edit] Title Origin
According to Shen Le, the band's keyboardist and main composer, the album's title was named after Shen Le and Chen Yun’s dark past and experience. “It’s too raw and painful to talk about it. But it cast a great shadow on my heart,” Shen Le said.
Recording
The Last Aurora began writing the lyrics in December. The recording of the instrumental parts of The Last Aurora took place in January. Finally, the recording of the vocals took place in Febrary to June. The CDs and CD covers were provided by Shen Le, the CD booklet printed by Felicia Lau. The album took $3 to produce.

Music Style

Before the album's release, band leader Shen Le said in an interview that the album will have a lot of dark epic material, like Nightwish.

“There will be pop angst songs, piano ballads, and acoustic guitar songs, and twisted dark songs. I knew you would enjoy it! I love everything!” Shen Le said.

“It was fun recording this album! I get to make funny noises, talk, and scream.” Felicia Lau said. “I love the piano ballads most of all!”

Chen Yun declined to comment, saying “Fuck off!” when she was interviewed.

This marks the tension between Chen Yun and the other band members. Felicia Lau wanted to kick Chen Yun out, but Shen Le was afraid to tell her. Instead, she told Chen Yun that she is currently ‘in hiatus’.

The album's average track length is 3.9 minutes, with most of the songs lasting for about three minutes. There is one epic song, almost 11 minutes, that is the longest ever for a The Last Aurora record, a band that mostly had songs about 2-3 minutes and one or two longer per album. The track “The Songwriter And The String” is the longest song in the band's history, 10:58, 6:46 minutes longer than the song that used to occupy that position, “In That Time.

Track Meanings
1. The Songwriter And The String was inspired by Nightwish’s The Poet And The Pendulum. It is about how Shen Le is forced to write songs, because she is controlled by God like a puppet, by strings.
3. Eradication Of Pain is about how a sinner decides he wants to die because God cannot save him.
4. You Are My Sin is inspired by Nightwish’s She Is My Sin. It is about how a person has a split personality, and her dark side is trying to tempt her into darkness.
5. Nobody Knows is inspired by Martina McBride’s Concrete Angel, about Shen Le’s father who abuse her.
7. In A Darkened Room is written by a drug dealer, his personal account about how he regrets taking drugs. Now he is in jail, and he wishes that people can pity him, and God can save him. However, he is now dead
8. Lavia is about a girl killing her sister, because she wants to save her sister from the corruption and discrimination by men. Lavia is very ugly, like Shen Le, thus Men
might harm her. This song is inspired by Nightwish’s Eva.
9. Grendel’s Demise is written after Shen Le watched Beowulf. She does not think Grendel should be killed just because he is ugly. He should be pitied and loved. She hates Beowulf, because he is a horny, violent, stupid and proud idiot.
10. Our Farewell is about a girl saying goodbye to her grandmother. She wishes she could spend more time with her before she died. This song is a tribute to Chen Yun’s dead grandmother. This song is inspired by Avril Lavigne’s Slipped Away, and Evanescence’s My Immortal.

The Last Aurora Wiki

The Last Aurora is a Singapore instrumental[1] rock band, formed in 2007 in Singapore. The Last Aurora is considered one of the bands responsible for the highlight of the symphonic metal genre in Singapore.

In June 2008, Sarah Cheung Zi Ling was revealed as Chen Yun’s replacement,[4] and in 2009, the band will release a new album The Truth Before The Dawn.[2] However, the band again decided that Sarah Cheung was not suitable for the band, and Chen Yun was once again returned to the band. Pearlyn Tan Shou Hua joined in 2009 as the band manager and art director. The band is currently in hiatus, to support the exams of the band members.

The Last Aurora Demo (2007)

Based on the musical experimentations of Shen Le, the original band concept was to create pop music.[5] The band featured only synthetizers, music DJ, piano, and the pop vocals of Shen Le and Felicia. The three musicians recorded their self-titled pop demo in the winter of 2007. The name “The Last Aurora” was derived from the imagery of the last hope to mankind, and the first demo also included early versions of “Night Requiem”, “Naturalization”, “Contrapuntal”, “Opus Ab Silentium”, and “Ethereal Realm”.
After listening to Evanescence, Shen Le and Chen Yun decided to play gothic and emo music.

Dawncast (2007)

In late 2007, Shen Le began listening to Nightwish and added ethereal and dark elements to the band's existing experimental style gave the band a unique sound, forming the core of The Last Aurora sound.

The band recorded ten songs for their first album, entitled Dawncast.
Dawncast is one of the three albums which features Chen Yun’s vocals, appearing on one of the album's ten tracks, alongside vocalist Shen Le.

Critical reception of Dawncast was generally optimistic, with Merissa Ang rating the album 4 out of 5 stars,[6] and Emily stating that The Last Aurora’s debut album is “OK”.

Old Shadows Linger (2008)

Following a string of pleas from fans, the band filmed their first video clip for “Our Farewell” in April 2009. The Last Aurora completed their second album in 2008. When Sarah Cheung, an old friend of Felicia Lau, joined the band, The Last Aurora then returned to the studio in 2009, to record their follow up album.

On 2008, The Last Aurora released their second full length album, Old Shadows Linger, in Singapore. Adopting a more symphonic and darker sound than Dawncast,[8] Old Shadows Linger saw the band abandon much of the pop and fun elements present on their debut release. In contrast to the female vocals of Shen Le, the album also featured growling vocals by Chen Yun.

Old Shadows Linger was well received, with Merissa writing that the album “as a whole works great”, with songs that are “very strong”.[9] Old Shadows Linger was an instant success in Singapore. The album’s first single, “Our Farewell”, hit number 1 on the school charts, where it stayed for several weeks.[5]

The Truth Before The Dawn (2009)

Critical response to the album was great, with Merissa Ang citing the album as brilliant, and saying “as a whole album, it can be a little overwhelming, but mindblowing”. However, Lau Yi Lin declared The Truth Before The Dawn “Album of the Year”, despite competing against long-awaited May releases from Japanese bands.
Following the release of The Truth Before The Dawn, The Last Aurora embarked on their fourth recording.

The record included guest performances by Felicia Lau, and Sarah Cheung.
Shortly after the release, Vocalist Chen Yun was asked to leave the band, and Sarah Cheung joined the band. Sarah Cheung would, apart from perform vocals, will also play the piano together with Shen Le. Earlier, when needed, Chen Yun performed the male vocals. Shen Le now had to do the vocals. Shen Le has afterwards said that he and Chen Yun still keep in touch. However, they are not interested in making another project together. The reason of Chen Yun’s dismissal was that she was not committed enough to the band and had creative conflict with the band.
After the recording in the Old Shadows Linger on June 21, 2008, the two other members of The Last Aurora decided that it was best to continue The Last Aurora without Chen Yun,[11] a feeling they expressed through a sms which was given to Chen Yun by Felicia Lau. It was written by Shen Le and signed by everyone. The main justification of Chen Yun’s dismissal given in the letter was that the band felt that she had changed her attitude towards the band.

Trio For Trilingualism (2009)

After listening to FIR, Shen Le decided to make an album full of pop. “We’ve been doing sad, spooky stuff for so long, this is gonna be a fun distraction. Pop is not as shallow as it seems. This album will talk about love, inspiration, and just being yourself. Of course, the title means there’s gonna be three of us, and trilingualism, since I can speak three languages.” Shen Le commented.

Felicia Lau and Chen Yun both applaud the idea, thinking it is a welcome distraction after the end-of-year. Felicia will be singing the English songs, while Chen Yun will sing the Chinese, and Shen Le will sing the Japanese.

Sarah Cheung has been kicked out of the band, due to dismal lack of concern for the band.

“I can’t believe Sarah will do this. I mean, I thought I knew her, as a friend… But she doesn’t like Shen Le, because she just want me to friend her alone. She’s kind of obsessive.” Felicia Lau said.

Legends Of The Night (2010)

In September, The Last Aurora's Shen Le said she just finished writing nine songs. However, the last song would be a full sonata of piano music entirely composed by her, which will be very difficult for this amateur pianist. “At the moment I have one complete album, and a pretty clear overall vision for the album. It's gonna be fantastic to start working with it full-time, sometime next year. But we need to survive O-levels first!”

This album is rumoured to include the band member Pearlyn Tan Shou Hua.

The O-levels will end in winter 2009 and then they will start with the new album.

[edit] Music Influence
Main article: Shen Le

Shen Le, writer of most of the band’s lyrics and musical scores, says that she gets most of the inspiration for The Last Aurora’s songs from books, experiences, and other music.[23] Books like The Navigator “The Navigator And The Watcher”, fairytales “Ever After”, No Escape “Witch Child”, Ringu “Sadako’s Threnody. “Many songs are written from the bottoms of our hearts,” Shen Le said. “We want our listeners to contemplate ideas which might not be morally wrong, such as is it alright to kill someone to save them “Lavia”, to kill somebody you love, because if you can’t have them, nobody can? “Murder For Madness”. How about killing everyone to get your beloved? “A Great And Terrible Beauty”. We also want people to forgive drug addicts “In A Darkened Room”, don’t stereotype people based on their looks “Grendel’s demise”, is it alright to die for love “Aria For Ariel”, not even to become a vampire to save you love from dying of anaemia? “1001 Nights As An Undead”.

Musical style

The Last Aurora’s music had pop ditties “Whiteout”, rock anthems “Why Don’t You”, romantic ballads “In That Time”, hardcore metal “I Wish For A Rainy Day”, emo classics “Relinquishment”, power metal “You Are My Sin”, and epics “The Songwriter Ad The String”.

“It is hard to stereotype us. You might listen to Dawncast and dismiss us as Avril Lavigne, or label us as emo based on “Old Shadows Linger”, but the truth is, we’re always evolving.” Shen Le said. “If we feel like writing dark romantic epics, we will. I’ll even make a whole album of pop fluff if I want. It’s no trouble finding a catchy melody with poetic lyrics.”

While the music of The Last Aurora is mostly not composed by the members, the piano and synthesized parts are. “We want to thank the artists of freeplaymusic for making this awesome music available for us. What better use can there be, in writing some lyrics, and then finding the music that eerily suits it? It’s not like we’re making money out of this. I will definitely compose my own music once I finished grade 8 piano,” Shen Le said. Although the songs are centered around a female lead singer,[40] the band has also featured some male vocals (done by Chen Yun and Shen Le) on their albums ever since Old Shadows Linger. The songs also feature a lot of dialogue. “We want to make this seem like a movie score. People talking makes the audience feel more involved with the song.” Shen Le said.
